Hi, I haven’t played tennis for a few years and I’m looking to get back into it and try out for my community college. I played back in high school and played doubles, I have a pure drive babolat, and so far it’s my favorite racquet, I let my friend borrow it for a good 2-3 years already and I’m finally getting it back, Just wondering if you guys have any recommendations on what racquets i should demo out from Tennis Warehouse before i decide to buy. I’ve always been a power player, I was never good at my back hand so I always sliced, I know I gotta work on that. Also what kinda shoes are good? I had some barricades back in high school and they were pretty comtherable Thanks.
I’ve tried the N-Code back in high school our #1 player used the n-code and used Wilson racquets, I was never a fan of Wilsons, Head, Etc, Maybe i’ll give it another shot and see! thanks for the link and reply, I’ll demo the n-code before i make my decision! thanks
It will depend on what kind of power player we are talking about…
The first type of power hitter is the well-known flat hitter. He doesn’t really hit flat; his trajectories are simply low, fast and direct. His shots typically lands deep and bounce lower; the pace and the lower level of spin make it slide a bit more. Soderling and Del Potro qualifies as those direct powerful hitters. His game is mostly about depth and ball placement.
The second type of powerful player has a more round trajectory, though it remains quite direct. He doesn’t play as a lifter (like Nadal), but he puts quite a good amount of spin. His trajectories are loopy, mostly by the end of the stroke and they tend to higher than flat hitters. This category includes Roddick and Djocovic. Their games rely on a different kind of pressure; they prefer working the trajectories instead of pure ball placement.
The first type will like dense string beds while the other will tend to prefer more open string patterns, but it can vary depending on the strengths and weaknesses of the players; also string tensions and string types can make the two stringing pattern more or less like the other though they’ll never be identical.
So, we’re speaking of Head Youtek Radical and Youtek Speed for dense string beds; Wilson K factor or BLX 6.1 95 (the 16x 20 version) is also an option for those. The 16×18 version of 6.1 95 is a good idea to try for an open string bed and the new GT version of Roddick’s Pure Drive is a good choice too for your kind of game.
